Tips & Tricks

Company of Heroes

One Step Ahead

Many units in Company of Heroes are natural predators of particular targets. Taking into account that certain units will almost always hail the arrival of their intended counter-unit, prepare as such. If a Stug is in the build queue, consider quickly investing in a sniper to remove enemy AT guns that will almost certainly appear to repel it. Having built that sniper, anticipate the arrival of a Jeep with a Pak 38 or a well-placed mine.

Dawn of War

The Ticking Clock

Direct confrontation is not the only method of defeating your opponent in Dawn of War, control of key areas can also mean the difference between victory and defeat. In Dawn of War maps are usually populated with between 1 and 4 Critical Locations in additional to standard Requisition and Relic points. Capturing these Critical Location points grants a steady increase of resources but also serves a far more valuable purpose. Controlling over 2/3 of the Critical Locations on a map will begin the Take and Hold victory countdown, if you continue to hold 2/3 of the Critical Locations for the duration of the countdown then you win through Take and Hold. Although it can be difficult to hold on to a number of Critical Locations for the full duration of the timer, simply having the pressure of this “ticking clock” will often force your opponent into making risky decisions in an attempt to stop you from achieving Take and Hold victory. Likewise, if your opponent has the take and hold timer ticking down it is important not to panic and to ensure that you have adequate time to deny him critical locations before the timer is complete.
